From Check-In To Check-Out: Enjoy Your Hotel Employee Stay

When you spend your working days looking after guests, it can take a moment to settle into being one yourself. Your next leisure stay is a chance to enjoy the welcome from the other side of the desk.

A hotel employee rate makes that opportunity more accessible. A little preparation and clear communication help you make the most of it, while giving the team hosting you the space to do what they do well. Here is a practical guide to a comfortable, considerate stay from arrival to departure.

Arrive With The Essentials Ready

Keep your reservation confirmation easy to find, and check the dates, guest names and room details before you travel. Bring valid identification that matches the reservation. Approved HER members do not need an additional authorization form, but the conditions attached to the booking still apply.

If you expect to arrive late, contact the hotel using the details on your confirmation and ask about its arrival arrangements. If you plan to arrive before check-in, ask whether luggage storage is available. An early arrival does not automatically mean that the room will be ready.

Make Requests Early And Be Specific

A quiet room, two beds or a late departure can make a real difference to a trip. Raise preferences in advance, and distinguish a request from something the hotel has confirmed. An employee rate should not be treated as a promise of an upgrade, early check-in or late check-out.

If a particular feature is essential, ask the hotel to confirm it before you commit to the stay. For an accessibility requirement, describe the feature you need rather than relying on a broad room label. Clear information gives the team a better chance to explain what is possible.

Let Yourself Enjoy The Hotel

You may notice the small details that other guests overlook: how arrivals are welcomed, how a room is prepared or how a busy breakfast service is managed. Enjoy those moments without turning your break into a work assignment.

Ask the team for one or two local recommendations that suit your plans. Share what you like, how much time you have and whether you prefer walking or taking transport. A focused question is easier to answer than a request to plan the entire trip, especially during a busy check-in period.

Speak Up If Something Needs Attention

Being considerate does not mean ignoring a problem. If something is missing, unclear or not working, tell the appropriate team promptly and describe what has happened. Start with the practical issue and the help you need, rather than an assumption about its cause.

Give the hotel a reasonable opportunity to respond. If the first person cannot resolve it, ask who can assist. Your experience as a hotel employee can help you communicate clearly, but you do not need to apologize for raising a genuine concern.

Keep Changes And Charges Clear

If your plans change, use the reservation process rather than assuming that a conversation at the desk has changed the booking. HER members can open Reservations in their account to request a change or cancellation. The booked rate’s conditions continue to apply, and a request alone does not waive cancellation or no-show charges.

Before adding a service, check whether it is included or charged separately. At departure, review the bill while questions can still be clarified. Keep any agreed adjustments and the final receipt with your travel records.

Leave Useful Feedback

Specific feedback is valuable. Mention the welcome that made arrival easier, the local suggestion you enjoyed or the team member who helped resolve a concern. If something could improve, explain it accurately and constructively.

Take the same care when sharing photographs. Avoid including other guests, staff name badges or private information without their permission. A memorable view or a detail you enjoyed can tell the story of your stay without putting someone else in it.

Your Turn To Be The Guest

A thoughtful stay leaves plenty of room to relax. Arrive prepared, ask clearly and enjoy the hospitality around you. You know how much care goes into creating a good guest experience. Now you can appreciate it at your own pace.
